Fall is a great time of year, especially because the weather is changing and the holidays are quickly approaching. It’s also a great time of year to think of your smile and oral health. If possible, it’s best to make sure you have strong and healthy teeth and gums this fall. This can help you have the top-notch oral health you deserve right in time for the holidays. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Lonnie Anderson, encourages you to do a couple things.

The first thing you should do is keep up on oral hygiene. Please brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, rinse your mouth daily, and visit your dentist for your checkup if you’re due for one. These things can help you prevent dental issues and keep your smile clean, healthy, and strong. As you clean your teeth and gums, please remember to use a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and rinse that have been approved by the American Dental Association.

The second thing you should do is wear a mouthguard when you participate in high-contact fall sports. This is important because many oral injuries occur while you are active. If you don’t wear a mouthguard, there is a high chance you can suffer an oral injury, like knocked-out, cracked, and broken teeth as well as torn and injured oral tissues. You could even suffer a dislocated jaw. So, please remember to wear a mouthguard if you participate in fall sports.
